A week or so later

This is on july 25th. Oggy's been gone for a week. I just can't remember what I have done during that week...
So here comes Sunday, and... well this looks pretty crowded!

What is going on? France's most famous avenue is closed to traffic.
You guessed right: the Champs Elysées.

Giant screens allow spectators to keep a look on the race still 80 km away.
I have no way of seeing the road with all this crowd. And I don't really want to be waiting one or 2 hours... So I keep walking. People everywhere.
Here's is the caravan! Obviously done for this year.
These people are actually massed around a tunnel entrance. In still an hour or so the race will go underneath. I just keep walking home.
And then, as I'm almost there, I see a familiar car...
The "gendarmes",
And here is Contador (and his teammates... clue: Contador wears the maillot jaune)
And the followers...
... and they're gone. It lasted what? 20 seconds? probably less.

July 15th

A great day for skiing!

note: none of these pictures are mine. They were all taken by the very talented Oggy. I was too busy skiing :)

Tignes!

High mountains. Here in the back, la Grande Casse, the 4th highest summit of France 3858meters.
On some spots the glass is visible underneath
Summer ski school!

11 am, time to stop, the snow is getting too wet: take the subway back to the valley
And that's where we were... On la Grande Motte, 3657m, nice white dome on the right...

Refuge de la Martin

The next day we decided to hike to get a closer look at the glacier that we had seen from the road. The hikes starts from Tignes les Boisses (Tignes the woods) which is located below Tignes at an elevation of 1800meters.
The first part of the hike follows runs we skied in January, includind a black one which was probably the steepest part. From there we turned on a single track trail from which we could see a part of the dam and the Lac du Chevril.

After crossing the Vallon de la Sache, we left the ski area and followed the border of the Natural Park of the Vanoise.
Now a better view of the dam and the lake.
After a little while, we finally saw the refuge of La Martin, from which starts the climb to the glacier. Try to find it on the picture (that Oggy took)

From there, it took about 25 minutes to get to the foot of the glacier of La Savinaz. Pretty amazing.

And we found Oggy's new home.
One the way back, I took this picture from the refuge, with the top of the glacier to the right.
